Quality Inbound Links

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

This month as part of our hour a month for our clients we are using webmaster tools to update our clients sites.  We are using the tools to see who is linked to your site and if they have invalid links we are emailing the source of the link and asking them to update.

Quality inbound links are one of the ways to keep your site high in the search engine rankings.

Added AddMarx Coding to Sitemap

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

With the influx of new social medias we decided there should be a way for your customers to link to your site anyway they want to not just using a browser menu.  We added a small bit of coding provided to us by AddMarx, to everyone’s sitemap which will allow the visitor to quickly add your site to a variety of medias including but not limited to:

Favorites, Del.icio.us, Yahoo My Web, MSN Live Bookmarks, Google Bookmarks, and Yahoo Bookmarks.  They can also use this tool to tell a friend about your website, or add it to Digg, Reddit, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and a number of other Social Websites.

Link popularity is a great way to improve your sites visibility in search engines.  The more people that link to you the better.

If you want to add it to all the pages of your site, please let us know!

Major Mail Service Block Lists

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

During the month of May and June we had an increasing number of complaints that email sent to Yahoo and AOL email accounts was not getting through to the recipient.  We spent considerable time working with Yahoo and AOL to determine the correct configurations on the mail server so that email is properly delivered to our clients and our clients’ customers.

Copyright and Privacy Statements Updated

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

In May, we discovered that the Copyright and Privacy statement on our clients’ sites was triggering some Internet Filtering Software were blocking websites (see our May 12th Client Alert). As a result of this trigger, we looked extensively at the Copyright and Privacy Statements and updated the portions we felt were not up to today’s technology standards.

The copyright and privacy statement can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of the webpage.

New Ticket System for Website, Marketing and Multimedia Work

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

This month we are implementing a new ticket system for website design, production, programming, marketing and multimedia work.

To submit a ticket, just email websupport@onyourmark.com and detail your question or request within the body of the email.

The email automatically enters a ticket in our work order system. If you email a staff member directly and he or she is out of the office, your email may not be seen until he or she returns. Emailing websupport@onyourmark.com creates a ticket that several staff members can see and respond to.

As a ticket is being worked on, you will notice a ticket number in the subject line of emails related to that project. This number allows us to track work progress and save all correspondence related to the project. The subject lines will be similar to this:

Text Changes on samplenamehere.com [onyourmark.com #58344].

Email websupport@onyourmark.com when you need to:

  • Send us materials (images, text, video clips) for website, marketing or multimedia projects
  • Request website updates, changes or additions
  • Submit a proof for a project
  • Email search engine optimization materials or questions about search engine rankings
  • Ask a question about your website, internet marketing or multimedia (or general questions about these topics)

For website hosting and email support, please see our March 2008 PromoSupport Article for instructions.

The ticket system is included as part of the hour per month of maintenance provided with your website hosting and email service.

Support Ticket System for Email, MX and Domain Change Requests

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

This month we implemented a new ticket system to better serve clients with requests for Email, MX, and their domains.

There is nothing different that you need to do as a client. Either fill out the email request form found at http://www.onyourmark.com/clientforms/email.html or send an email to support@onyourmark.com like you always have.

What is great about the new system is once you submit the form or send off the email it will go into the queue for one of our sys admins to take care of. Your request can be handled much more effectively. The new system eliminates any delays because you sent the email directly to a staff member that is out of the office or on vacation.

The ticket system will automatically put a ticket number in the subject line of emails related to that request. This number allows us to track work progress and save all correspondence related to the project. The subject lines will be similar to this:

Text Changes on samplenamehere.com [onyourmark.com #154344].

If there is every any question on the progress of a request, myself or Keith can go back into the ticket and see all of the correspondence related to the ticket. This makes billing for that request much more efficient as well. We know exactly what was done, who ordered it, and when.

The ticket system is included as part of the hour per month of maintenance provided with your website hosting and email service.

ICRA Tags Updated

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Your website’s ICRA tag has been updated as your value-added service for February 2008. The Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) allows webmasters to create a tag identifying how much adult or profane content appears on a website. Rating categories include profanity, nudity, violence, sexual material, profanity and substance abuse. Over the years, ICRA has expanded the definitions of these items in its rating system. New categories for user-generated content have been added, covering forums and chat rooms.

Almost all of our clients sites had zeros in their ICRA tags, which means there is no questionable material on the sites. We expected this as we created the new tags… OnYourMark, LLC will not host sites with offensive content.

Some sites received slightly different ICRA tags because they had forums or other features where users can submit content. This doesn’t mean the sites have offensive content. If outside contributors can submit content, there may be a chance that offensive content appears on the website. Our own theBubbler.com allows members to submit content, but we strictly monitor the site to ensure content being posted is family friendly.

Why does a website need a tag even if it has no offensive content? Parents and businesses often use software to monitor Internet use. The software may use ICRA tags as part of its content filtering system. If no ICRA tag is found, the software may block the site simply because it can’t determine what kind of content the site features. An ICRA tag tells the software your site is safe for everyone.

Building Natural Inbound Links and Link Popularity

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

One of the most important criteria used by search engines to rank your pages is natural inbound links. During the month of January, we researched how best to build quality inbound links for our client. An inbound link is where someone else’s site links back to yours. A quality link is a link that comes from a site related to yours. The more natural quality inbound links that a site has the more popular it is. The higher the link popularity, the more likely a site is to be ranked higher in the search engines.

This month, besides the research, we added each of our clients’ websites to AboutUs.ORG as a start in increasing their link popularity. AboutUs.ORG is a business and organization guide that provides a summary overview of the company’s website and a link back to that website. AboutUs.ORG is a way to build natural back links to your website. Check out your information on www.AboutUs.ORG.

You may want to add a post in your blog about AboutUs.ORG and add to link back to them, naturally!

Banner Ad Campaign Renewal

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

We have renewed all client banner ad campaigns on theBubbler.com for 2008 as your value-added service for December 2007. Your site’s 468 x 60 animated banner will show at the top of the page in one category. Your 125 x 125 animated banner will appear a minimum of 50,000 times, in random rotation, throughout theBubbler.

An “impression” is a view. When a page comes up and a set of eyeballs sees it, that’s an impression. We are proud to have the highest ranked Wisconsin web guide and directory for traffic as our vehicle to show off your ads.
